Our School Dog

Meet Digby!

Digby is a small, friendly, three-year-old blonde Cockapoo and is a key member of our pastoral and culture team.

Digby is based in school for one to two days per week, working with students on an individual basis, as well as spending time with students during social times.

Studies have shown that school dogs can have a positive effect on children, with many schools now taking the decision to introduce a school dog.

The positive effects include:

  • Supporting those who are struggling with things in school;
  • Reducing anxiety;
  • Improving reading confidence (by reading to a dog);
  • Generally being a calming influence.

Children can benefit educationally and emotionally, increase their understanding of responsibility, and develop their levels of empathy, through contact with a dog.

We recognise that dogs aren’t for everyone and please feel supported by the fact that students will only be allowed to engage with Digby should they wish to do so. He will always be fully supervised by his owner or an appropriately trained member of staff and is fully insured as a working dog.

Should you wish to say ‘hello’, we look forward to introducing Digby to you at one of our forthcoming events.
