The Cotswold Foorball League 'B' Team Competition started tonight. The CCS team exhibited their best spell of teamwork of the season against a determined young Willersey team, racking up a goal a minute, with the three lines all scoring and changing frequently. This showed a great respect for opponents who were capable of scoring if given the slightest chance. Malachy Jones (2), Angus Tombs (2), Jasmine Chamberlain (2) and Ruby Farrell all scored to back up a fine hat trick by Will Groves. A 10-0 win was no more than the seniors deserved, but would have been even more without the saves of Lily-Belle Wood in Willersey's goal. Blockley were able to borrow a couple of Willersey players against CCS. Tia Goodwin and Theo Beale helped keep the seniors at bay apart from goals by Tombs and Chamberlain. CCS selected several former pupils against St James, three of them scoring. Oliver Solomon, Olivia Peachey and Jones all netted in a match where goals were very hard to come by.
St James earned top qualifying spot in the group with wins over the other primary schools. They defeated Blockley 3-0, Oliver Haydon and Oliver Beale - twice - making the difference. Willersey also earned a 3-0 win over Blockley, Theo Beale netting twice, sandwiching a goal by Goodwin.
The best match of the night was between Willersey and St James. Theo Beale put Willersey ahead and had most of the play until Haydon equalised on the break. Saints now pressed forward, going ahead again through Haydon. Saints were also strong in defence, but conceded a free hit close to goal. Theo Beale spotted a gap at the end of the defence wall and slotted home the equaliser. St James pressed on once more and were denied several times by Wood, but not even she could prevent Haydon's hat trick for the late winner.
CCS 3-0 St James
CCS 2-0 Blockley
CCS 10-0 Willersey
St James 3-0 Blockley
St James 3-2 Willersey
Willersey 3-0 Blockley
