60p Plan

Supporting your Child’s Education for the cost of a Weekly Coffee

BACKGROUND

As many of you will be aware, our school is almost 600 years old – a similar age to Eton. Few schools can boast such a long history and heritage to their students, and whilst much has changed since the 15th century, we are determined to continue the development of our wonderful school.

We are proud to be a state comprehensive school and offer the widest possible opportunities to all. Nevertheless, state education funding alone does not enable us to provide all the benefits that we believe we can provide for your child, and over the course of many generations, the school has always been fortunate enough to receive the support and help of the families of those children attending our school.

THE PLAN

You doubtless receive many requests for money, however, we hope this one may be a little different. We would like you to consider whether you could contribute 60p per day, whilst your child is a member of our school. That equates to £3 a week (based on a five-day school week) – less than a cup of coffee a week! You may ask what possible difference that will make. Given the large number of families in our school community, if 500 families were willing to contribute a cup of coffee a week, that would raise £72,000 each year. Remarkable. If 750 were willing to take part it would raise £108,000 each year.

WHAT WOULD THE MONEY BE SPENT ON?

We want to make it clear that the money contributed will not be used to pay school running costs. It will be used to provide advantages for your child beyond those you would naturally expect a typical state-school to provide. As such we will keep you fully informed as to what projects the funding is used for; some of which will be community projects that you can indeed make use of.

By way of providing one example, if the plan has sufficient support, we are presently looking at building a suite of Padel courts. If you are not familiar with Padel, it the fastest growing sport in Europe and very likely to be included in the Olympic Games in Brisbane 2032. We want to be one of the first state-schools in the country to provide Padel for our students and local community. Perhaps your child can become yet another Olympian from our school. Sport is only one area of intended school development; there are many more. For example, we are currently working with local charities to secure funding for a section of school land to be transformed into a wellbeing garden for our students; we would like to renovate our existing food technology facilities to support our students in their learning of food and nutrition; an additional minibus to support us in transporting students, and funds to enable us to further enhance our growing provision for extra-curricular activities for your children.

This plan will only work through scale. We appreciate that not all families can afford this, and we fully acknowledge and respect this; the scheme is of course purely voluntary. But if you do support it then we are confident your support will encourage others to see just what extra can be achieved for your children.
